The Texas Motion Picture Alliance (TXMPA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization founded in Austin on June 16, 2006 to become the advocate for the film, video, interactive, and digital media production industries in the Lone Star State. The Alliance is committed to building a strong community of industry professionals. It is charged towards creating competitive economic incentives to present to the state legislature in the upcoming session. TXMPA also is committed to educating the general public about our businesses and how we impact their lives through the hundreds of millions of dollars our productions pump into the economy. An elected board of directors governs TXMPA and that board includes a representative for each of seven regions throughout the state: Amarillo/Panhandle, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, El Paso/West Texas, Houston, Rio Grande Valley/Brownsville and San Antonio. |

Eighth Annual TMC Meet and Greet – Sunday, June 24![]() The Texas Music Coalition’s 8th annual Meet and Greet will be held Sunday, June 24 at Candlelight Coffee House & Wine Bar on 3011 North St. Mary. Bands, musicians and vocalists are invited to bring their recorded music to be played. The MC / DJ will be Joe Barfield, remembered from his DJ days as Joe Joe Jellyroll on KSYM radio and currently publishes the SA Music & Art e-newsletter and web site, www.SAMusicandArt.com. Join us to make new connections, visit with old friends, and for some schmoozing time with folks in the music biz while listening to music from area talents. A diverse group of actors, playwrights and directors, write, rehearse and perform six ten-minute plays in 24-hours. The 3rd annual SA to SA Humanities Festival is coming! This festival benefits two great South African efforts: 1) The Long Distance Bookmobile, started by the Mansfield family in 1994, which provides school textbooks and reading material for 70 schools and 4 township libraries near Clocolan, South Africa; and 2) the SA to SA Scholarship program, which provides scholarships to outstanding South African students in both South Africa and San Antonio. This uniquely San Antonio festival features a day filled with artistic performances (song, dance, drums and more); our First Annual South African Film Festival; children's activities such as story time, bracelet making, face painting, dancing and drum lessons; drum making; and lots of South African food and beverages. Also present are vendors selling all kinds of South African and African products - some imported and some made by Africans living in the U. S. Items have included clothing, jewelry, statuary, dishes, house décor, various gift items and more. It's the only festival of its kind in the area - you don't want to miss this one.The festival is to be held from noon until 9:00, with the film festival starting at 7:00, at Continental Café Event Center. The third annual SA to SA (San Antonio to South Africa) event proved to be alluring for many wonderful patrons who made this event a success once again! The event was a pleasing array of exotic sights, sounds, and tastes! The money collected from the event benefit: The Long Distance Bookmobile, started by the Mansfield family in 1994, which provides school textbooks and reading material for 70 schools and 4 township libraries near Clocolan, South Africa; and the Scholarships for South Africa program, which provides scholarships to outstanding South African students in South Africa giving them the opportunity to study in America. The founder of this humanities event is Nancy Parker.This year's festival featured a day filled with artistic performances of stories, dances, and drums. Mwendo, a magnificent tribal drum group provided amazing vocals and rhythmic beats that had everyone tapping their feet. The Drum Café provided powerful drum rhythms and a message of unity that everyone who attended was able to experience. The Renaissance Guild gave an amazing theatrical performance of "The Lion and the Jewel." The Grupo Capoeira Brasil Performance Team put on a gripping show for the audience, with participants ranging in age from 5 to 50. Capoeira is the martial art and dance form that originated in Africa but was honed in Brazil. Extremely talented African story teller, DeCee Cornish, delighted adults and children alike with his amazing and expressive voice and captivating stories. Other great entertainment was to be had! Fantastic venders included Mad Dog, a South African clothing line, which provided beautiful children's wears. Artistic Impressions had an array of gorgeous African artwork from varied artists. Beautiful jewelry was on display. African Bush Products had an exotic variety of teas for sale. Pili-Pili sold some delicious African hot sauces in an assortment of flavors. EZ Gas had a lot of useful things for grilling needs. African masks were also for sale, as were assorted wooden carvings. Many participants enjoyed the wonderful authentic food made by the Continental Café Event Center. A "Best Biltong" contest took place, providing patrons with a chance to sample some Biltong, which is the South African version of beef jerky. The winner of the contest received a one night stay at the La Mansion in down town San Antonio. A Little Safari area provided children with a colorful place to explore. Different South African animal arts crafted by Nancy Parker were on display along with some insightful fun facts about each one. Face painting, crafts, story time, music, dance, and rickshaw rides provided tons of fun and entertainment for kids. The festivities ended with a South African Film Festival which was an array of films with South African connections. Two of the directors, Deon Van Rooyen and Dave Sims, were there to take questions and speak with the audience after the films. The silent auction provided donated South African goods for the benefit fund and included clothing, jewelry, statuary, house décor, various gift items and more. The first recipient of the Scholarships for South Africa, Teko, was present at the festival and provided lots of entertainment with his South African dancing skills. It is a privilege for PrimaDonna Productions to coordinate the grand opening of Santikos Rialto Cinema Bistro and the Rialto Piccolo.Santikos Theatres has finished the renovation of both the Galaxy and Galaxy annex theatres to give rise to the new Rialto Cinema Bistro and the Rialto Piccolo. The $2 million renovations, inside and out, showcase amazing amenities; such as a state-of-the-art light system, a luxurious lobby, beautiful all new flooring, new box offices, and entrance doors. You must see their indoor decorative lighting system, and plasma screens. Louis Santikos, a Greek entrepreneur came to Texas more than 80 years ago and began a legacy of theater entertainment that has flourished in the decades that followed. Louis' son, John Santikos, introduced San Antonio to its first multi-screen indoor theatre, the Century South Theatre multiplex. Today, Santikos Theatres provide San Antonio quality entertainment with eight prime theater locations. The renovation of the Galaxy will not just provide new sights and sounds but also a treat for the taste-buds with a new refreshment station that goes beyond the average concession stand, offering delicious pastries, Starbuck's coffee varieties, including coffee with spirits as well as the movie theatre essentials - popcorn and candy. The Rialto Cinema Bistro will also be home to the amazing Bella Napoli Restaurant in the lobby. This will allow patrons to order from the full Rialto menu to dine before or after a movie, or just stop in to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner. Inside the theatre, Patrons will find fitted tables in front of each row of seats to accommodate in-theatre dining and a friendly wait staff ready to greet and take orders from the extensive menu. For rapid service, the new concession facility will offer customary movie favorites along with elegant desserts and many varieties of coffee and cocktails. The stylish Rialto Bar will feature margaritas, martinis, beer, wine and other spirits. Sip your drink at the bar or while enjoying your movie if you'd like! The grand opening of both theatres is sure to prove to be exciting and astounding to San Antonio's cinema scene attracting moviegoers from all parts of San Antonio, continuing to expand on a long legacy of quality entertainment. |

Nikki Young can currently be seen in The Left Hand Singing, a co-production with Star Productions (a Jewish Theatre Group) and The Renaissance Guild (SA's New Black Theatre Company). The play introduces us to three idealistic college students preparing to embark on an African-American voter registration drive during the Mississippi "Freedom Summer" in 1964. It also shows how their parents react in the days and years following the students' unsolved disappearance that summer. Nikki plays Linda Winnick, a Jewish girl from New York. Proceeds benefit the Long Distance Book-Mobile, which provides reading materials for seventy schools and four township libraries near Clocolan, South Africa. The day will be filled with performances by The Renaissance Guild, Sun Poet's Society Free Verse, Mwendo, Drum Cafe, an evening concert with local band, Dog Men Poets, a silent auction and much more. Clothing and other merchandise with a South African flare will also be available for purchase along with an array of delicious delicacies.
