Annual Writing Contest for 5th Graders
Facilitated by: Joseph B. De Mott & Associates, LLP: Immigration Lawyers
This writing contest “Celebrates America” and continues the ongoing efforts to educate the public
about the benefits of immigration to our society.
Eligibility
If you are a Fifth grader and are enrolled in a either a public or private school, you are invited to share your creative writing and research skills to write a poem, essay, or short story on “Why I Am Glad America Is A Nation Of Immigrants.”
· One public and private school winner will be selected and be given a prize of a $100 Savings Bond plus a replica of the Statue of Liberty.
· All winners will be included in contest post-publicity.
· Local entries will be submitted on to the National level. The National level winner and parents will be guests of honor of AILF at their annual banquet. The winning entry will then be entered in the Congressional Record.
· Any teacher, librarian, dean, mentor, or other educational adviser who is cited as being instrumental to the winning applicant’s studies, will be recognized with a Special Certificate, as well. (Please provide contact information for this individual.)
Procedures
Each applicant may submit only one entry per year.
Entries are limited to 250 words and can be an essay, poem, or short story. Each entry must include a cover page with the following information: student’s name, grade, age, school, address, telephone number, and proof of enrollment in the fifth grade, such as a transcript, report card, or letter from the school principal.
All entries must be postmarked before Friday, March 18, 2005 and mailed to:

No submissions will be returned. Both winning and non-winning applications will become the sole property of American Immigration Law Foundation (AILF) and its contest facilitators. The decisions of the judges will be final.
Winning entries will be posted on Joseph B. De Mott’s website at www.demottusa.com in May 2005.
Formal presentation of the local winners to be held in conjunction with Cinco de Mayo 2005.
